Our Practice Areas
Our knowledgeable and committed legal team will work with you to plan the path ahead. We are right there with you every step of the way.

Separation and divorce
Divorce is the legal end to your marriage. Although it is a separate issue to property settlement and parenting arrangements, a divorce order does start your twelve-month limitation period for applying to the court for property settlement. Delaying your divorce and property settlement can have significant financial consequences.

Children and Parenting
Securing the best parenting arrangements for your children is the single most important decision for
separating parents. Your choice of family lawyer can make a world of difference to the process and outcome in your parenting matter.

Consent Orders
These are the most common family law orders, and we skilfully draft these documents for our clients day in, day out.
Consent orders are a binding court order made by agreement between you and your partner without the need to attend court. It formalises your parenting or property agreement and ensures it is binding on you and your ex-partner. You will need a formalised agreement to transfer property in most instances, but you will also receive the benefit of a stamp duty exemption on family laws transfers.

Court representation
Sometimes it is necessary to seek the intervention of the Court to ensure you achieve the right outcome for your family.
In parenting matters, this may be an urgent application such as for recovery of children or responding to applications alleging risk of harm due to substance abuse, mental health issues or family violence.
In property matters, an urgent application restraining a party from dealing with joint assets or funds may be necessary. However difficult or complex your matter appears; we will support and guide you
to a successful conclusion.

Child Support
Child support is a payment collected from one parent, and distributed to another, to provide financial support in raising and caring for children. It is assessed on the income of each parent, and it is intended to ensure parents remain financially responsible for their children after separation.
The payment of child support is a separate issue to time arrangements, and private arrangements can be made between parties.

Pre-nuptial and binding financial agreements
Prenuptial and binding financial agreements provide clarity and certainty about the way property will be divided at separation. As couples increasingly enter relationships with their own assets, they have firmer expectations about the way property will be held and ultimately divided. A pre-nuptial or binding financial agreement allows couples to opt out of property settlement under the Family Law Act and agree to alterative arrangements that suit them.

Mediation and family dispute resolution
In recent times, there has been a dramatic shift towards mediation and family dispute resolution as
a first step in resolving family law disputes. There is good reason for this. It is a relatively quick, cost- effective way to reach agreement about property or parenting. Importantly, it gives parties an
opportunity to be heard and narrow the issues at the earliest opportunity, maximising the chances of reaching final agreement.
