How much child support will I have to pay? How much child support will I get?

Are you paying too much Child Support? Are you receiving enough Child Support? We can help.

There is an expectation in Australia that parents will financially support their children through the payment of Child Support. The amount of Child Support a parent will pay (or receive) is calculated in accordance with a basic formula you can access here at Services Australia: Basic child support formula – Child support assessment – Services Australia.

A good starting point is the online Child Support Calculator from Services Australia-Australian Child Support Calculator-Online estimator: Online estimators – Accessing our services – Services Australia

If you are paying or receiving Child Support under a Child Support Assessment, it is considered that the Child Support will cover state school fees, school related expenses, extra-curricular activities, and medical care. There are exceptions so we recommend obtaining legal advice if you have a Child Support query.

Parents have the option to proceed with an assessment through Child Support, or to come to a private agreement. We advise formalising any private agreement by way of a Binding Child Support Agreement. A Binding Child Support Agreement may include private school fees, extra-curricular activities, and medical expenses.
